Adams Ave Overhead Bridge CA HSR
Project Description
The Adams Avenue Grade Separation is a significant infrastructure project located between Cedar and Maple Avenues, south of the City of Fresno in Fresno County, California. This overcrossing spans 357 feet in length and measures 40 feet in width, facilitating vehicular traffic movement over the existing BNSF Railway and the future high-speed rail lines.
Initiated in November 2020, the project commenced with preliminary activities such as roadway demolition and grading. By November 2021, construction had progressed to the substructure phase, with crews completing five concrete footings, two abutment walls, and necessary columns. The subsequent phase involved the installation of 16 pre-cast concrete girders, forming the bridge's superstructure. Following this, crews set pre-cast concrete panels to create the deck and tied rebar for the diaphragms, which are essential for preventing girder rotation and ensuring vertical load distribution.
By June 2022, the project neared completion with the deck and concrete barrier rail finalized. Crews then focused on grading embankments, placing base coarse, and paving the roadway. The Adams Avenue Grade Separation was officially opened to traffic on December 20, 2022, marking a significant milestone in enhancing transportation infrastructure in the region.
This grade separation is part of the broader California High-Speed Rail project, aiming to improve safety and efficiency by eliminating at-grade crossings and facilitating uninterrupted traffic flow over railway lines.
