Dowd Road Bridge Replacement
Project Description
The Dowd Road Over Raccoon Creek Bridge Replacement Project was a critical infrastructure improvement undertaken by Placer County to enhance the safety and reliability of this key transportation route. The original bridge had become structurally deficient and no longer met modern design standards, necessitating its replacement with a reinforced concrete structure capable of withstanding increased traffic demands while improving overall roadway safety.
Knight CM Group was selected by Placer County as the prime consultant for construction management and structure representative services on this vital project. The scope of work involved removing the outdated bridge and constructing a new, modern reinforced concrete structure with cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles to ensure a strong and stable foundation. Additionally, roadway approach reconstruction included aggregate base placement and asphalt paving, enhancing the durability and longevity of the transportation corridor.
Environmental considerations played a crucial role in the project’s execution. Stream diversions, rock slope protection, and biological monitoring were implemented to minimize ecological impacts on Raccoon Creek. To further support environmental stewardship, utility relocations and a comprehensive drainage system were incorporated into the project, along with a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to effectively manage runoff and protect surrounding habitats.
To ensure continued local access during construction, traffic management measures were carefully coordinated to minimize disruptions to residents and commuters. The project adhered to all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with environmental and construction standards.
The successful completion of the Dowd Road Over Raccoon Creek Bridge Replacement Project significantly improved transportation reliability and safety for the community, providing a durable and modern crossing that enhances mobility while preserving the surrounding environment.
