Spring Valley Road Bridge Replacement
Project Description
The Spring Valley Road Bridge Replacement Project in Yuba County was a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing safety and longevity by replacing the aging bridge over Little Dry Creek. The existing bridge, constructed in 1920, was identified as functionally obsolete and structurally deficient, necessitating its replacement to meet current design standards.
The project involved constructing a new, modern reinforced concrete bridge approximately 100 feet in length and 32 feet in width, accommodating two 12-foot-wide lanes and 4-foot-wide shoulders. The new alignment was situated about 50 feet downstream of the existing bridge, with approach roadway grading and fill material to conform back to the existing roadway.
Key construction activities included road realignment to optimize traffic flow, installation of a durable aggregate base, application of hot mix asphalt for the roadway surface, and implementation of safety features such as guardrails and rock slope protection to prevent erosion and stabilize surrounding slopes. Additionally, traffic striping was applied to clearly demarcate lanes, improving navigation for drivers.
Knight CM Group played a pivotal role in this project by coordinating closely with contractors, local agencies, and other key stakeholders to ensure adherence to stringent safety standards, project schedules, and quality benchmarks. This collaborative effort was vital in minimizing disruptions and delivering a project that aligned with community expectations and regulatory requirements.
The defined project area spanned 400 feet on either side of the new bridge, ensuring a seamless transition to the surrounding road network and cohesive integration of the updated infrastructure into the existing transportation system.
The successful completion of the Spring Valley Road Bridge Replacement Project has significantly improved transportation infrastructure in Yuba County, providing a safer and more reliable crossing over Little Dry Creek for residents and travelers alike.
