Project Description

The Los Verjeles Road Bridge Replacement Project in Yuba County was initiated to address the structural deficiencies of the existing bridge over South Honcut Creek, approximately 4.5 miles northeast of Loma Rica. The original bridge, constructed in 1940, had become structurally deficient, necessitating its replacement to meet current safety and design standards.

The project entailed the removal of the deteriorated single-span concrete bridge, replacing it with a modern reinforced concrete structure measuring approximately 110 feet in length and 36 feet in width. This new bridge accommodates two 12-foot-wide lanes and 4-foot-wide shoulders, significantly enhancing vehicular safety and traffic flow.

Key construction activities included the installation of retaining walls to stabilize the surrounding terrain and the placement of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls to provide additional structural support. Rock slope protection measures were implemented to prevent erosion around the bridge abutments, ensuring the longevity of the structure. The project also encompassed comprehensive roadway improvements, such as the placement of aggregate base for foundational support, hot mix asphalt paving for a durable road surface, installation of guardrails to enhance driver safety, and application of traffic striping for clear lane demarcation.

Throughout the construction process, strict adherence to environmental mitigation measures and project specifications was maintained to minimize ecological impacts and comply with regulatory requirements. The defined project area extended approximately 200 feet on either side of the bridge, ensuring seamless integration of the new structure into the existing road network.

Knight CM Group was selected to provide construction inspection services for this project, ensuring that all aspects of the construction met the highest standards of quality and compliance. Their role was pivotal in overseeing the execution of the project, from the demolition of the old bridge to the completion of the new structure, ensuring that all work adhered to the specified guidelines and regulations.
