Construction Inspector

Knight CM Group is seeking experienced Construction Inspectors to join our growing team and support transportation and public infrastructure projects throughout California. This position provides the opportunity to work in the field on roadway, bridge, utility, and other public works construction projects while representing the interests of our public agency clients.

As a Construction Inspector, you will monitor construction activities to verify that work is performed safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, applicable standards, and contract requirements. You will work closely with Resident Engineers, contractors, agency staff, and other project team members to document construction progress, verify quantities, identify potential issues, and help maintain the quality and integrity of each project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and applicable agency standards.
- Inspect construction for compliance with contract documents.
- Prepare accurate daily inspection reports and project documentation.
- Measure, verify, and document installed quantities.
- Inspect roadway, bridge, underground, drainage, concrete, and paving work.
- Monitor traffic control, SWPPP, striping, signage, and related improvements.
- Document construction progress, field conditions, labor, materials, and equipment.
- Assist the Resident Engineer with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and meetings.
- Coordinate with contractors, agency staff, and project team members.
- Identify and report construction issues or non-compliant work.
- Assist with final inspections, punch lists, and project closeout.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of relevant public works, highway, bridge, or inspection experience; or an Engineering/Construction Management degree with 1+ year of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of construction inspection practices, methods, and documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and agency requirements.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound field judgment.
- Basic proficiency with office software, spreadsheets, and electronic documentation.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
- Ability to accommodate project-specific schedules when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Relevant construction inspection certifications.
- Public works and transportation construction experience.
- Experience with Caltrans, cities, counties, or other public agencies.
- Familiarity with Caltrans standards, specifications, and procedures.
